Do I need to assemble the bike myself?
- Our bikes will arrive 85% assembled. We advise 2 people assemble our e-bikes, assembly videos can be viewed on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@blacktopbicycles
We also recommend considering having you e-bike assembled at a certified bicycle shop, as the cost is usually minimal.
Is the battery removable?
- Yes, each bike comes with a set of keys for locking and unlocking the removable battery. We recommend removing the battery when the bike is not used frequently and or if being stored for long periods of time.
Battery charger and charging:
- Each bike comes with a battery and charger. Most batteries will fully charge within a 5 hour window give or take. On the top of the battery there is a button you may hold down to check the battery life. There is no need to fully charge the battery after each use, charging the battery to 85% is recommended. We recommend charging the battery once it gets below 20% life. The battery will actually last longer if you charge less frequently. We recommend that you DO NOT leave the battery plugged in for an excessive period of time. Leaving the battery plugged in for extended periods of time can lower the battery charge capacity and battery life. In addition, if the bike will be dormant for weeks or longer, it's best to remove the battery and keep both the bike and battery in a cool dry space.
When will my E-bike ship?
- Bikes ship within 3 - 5 days after an order is placed. A tracking number is provided via email to the customer upon shipping.
How to Find My Controller/Serial No.?
- Each e-bike will have a unique controller/serial number, which can be found on the middle frame post that the battery is connected to. Remove the battery, and the label with the Model # is located on the controller, which is part mounted to the center frame that the battery connects to. The Model number listed on the label is the bicycles unique controller/serial number.
Pedal assist system (PAS):
- The PAS (Pedal Assist System) will power the motor automatically when you pedal without the need to press a throttle on the handlebars. They can do this in response to the speed that you are spinning the cranks, the torque that you are applying to the pedals, or some combination of those. The throttle on the handlebar grips gives you 100% control of the motor power at any instant, giving you the ability to increase or decrease the assist at will. The PAS controls the motor automatically and you don't need to do anything with your hands. The LCD control will allow you to set the assist level, which you can increase or decrease the motor power while riding.
Care & Maintenance:
- Refer to the General Product Manual at the footer of this site. E-bikes are expensive, and depending on usage, we recommend taking your bike to a certified bicycle shop for a tune up at least a couple times a year. However you can do a lot of basic maintenance and extend the life, looks, and functionality of your bike. Things such as gently wiping your bike down after usage, lubing the chain, and keeping the tires properly inflated. We recommend inflating the tires towards the top of the range listed on the tire sidewall (never over it). Check pressure at least weekly, since all tires slowly leak air over time. One thing you should NOT do, is mess with the motor system itself. E-bikes have specialized firmware and intricate internal parts that require specialized tools and knowledge. Most e-bikes can be diagnosed in a licensed bicycle shop, which have access to plug-in diagnostic systems that can help them find and fix trouble spots in a motor or battery.
